I know how pain,
can tear your heart in two!

takes over you!
Everyone numbly, tells you,
"You've got to rise above!"
Yet, they won't
elaborate...
and tell you, how it's done!
Shallow answers,
mixed with salt,
can't quench a thirsty heart!
And when you're hungry,
they simply,
toss you crumbs,
expecting you,
to just accept...
but real love,
takes more than spewing facts!
There's caring,
in relationship!
Hold on!
Press rewind!
Was it your fault,
for being blind?
You sought the truth...
and yet, found lies!
The love you gave,
was used as ties,
to hold you down! Down!
They hold you down! Down!
They make you feel like,
you're an object,
in a narcissistic world,
with nobody caring,
who you really are...
or about the insults,
that were hurled!
You feel like,
everyone is plastic!
They won't give,
what's within them!
Yet, they all want a piece of you,
so they can feel like,
they're your friend!
Just keep up appearances...
and perform upon their whim!
The grass looks greener,
through a painted lens!
'We're so close!
Let's just pretend!'
They silence you!
You won't avenge!
But...at night, those things,
wake up in you.
Those dreams, that you let
slip away.
They'll always be a part of you,
with sentiment,
not on display!
Why are we so guarded?
We act as if, life's a play!
We shield ourselves,
to not get broken...
Yet, brokenness finds a way!
People are disconnected!
They don't want to interject!
They feel despised,
so they despise you!
You just wanted their respect!
